Bangkok

A month of heat, street food and the particular calm of a city that is always mid-sentence.

Bangkok was the last stop and the one I expected to like least, and it turned out to be the place I would go back to first. A month there is long enough to stop rushing and start noticing — the rhythm of the rain, the way a neighbourhood feeds itself after dark.

I photographed less here than anywhere else, which probably means I was paying more attention.

A crowded night market lit by strings of warm bulbs.
Chatuchak, late evening.
A long-tail boat cutting through a canal lined with wooden houses.
The canals are still the fastest way through.
Rain falling on a street of food stalls under plastic awnings.
The afternoon rain, right on time.
