Taipei at 2AM
On jet lag, convenience stores and the strange comfort of a city that never fully sleeps.
Jet lag is a strange gift: it hands you hours that belong to no one. For a week I woke at two in the morning and walked, because there was nothing else to do and the city was still, technically, open.
The convenience store as a living room
There is a particular kind of light in a Taiwanese convenience store at two in the morning — flat, greenish, kind. I ate a lot of tea eggs and watched people who were also awake for reasons I would never know.
Photographs in the rain
It rained most nights. The streets in Ximending turn into mirrors, and every neon sign gets a second, wobbling life in the puddles. I took the pictures slowly, standing under awnings, waiting for the reflections to settle.
I did not sleep much that week, and I would do it again in a heartbeat.
